Busy Day In Fairlawn

At 13:30 on Saturday Afternoon Pawtucket Fire Alarm Dispatched Engine's 5,1,2 Tower Ladder 1 & The Battalion Chief To 799 Mineral Spring Avenue Between Smithfield Avenue & Overland Avenue for a reported structure fire, Due to the amount of calls being received Engine 3 Ladder 2 & Rescue 1 were dispatched to fill out the assignment. Engine 5 arrived and reported a "Code Red" with fire in a rear bedroom area of a occupied 2.5 story woodframe. Firefighters stretched in lines via sides one and four and pushed the fire out side three while members checked the upper floors for any extension, Ladder 2 arrived and setup to vent the roof. Incident Command Requested A additional Engine for a RIT Or FAST Team but the request was canceled shortly thereafter. Rescue 1 transported a patient to a area hospital with injuries of unknown extent, The fire prevention office is currently looking into a cause. The recall was sounded at 15:16.

This is the second fire of the day earlier in the morning firefighters responded to a small fire in a large mill type building in the 500 block of Mineral Spring Avenue which was the second fire in that building in less than a week, also today's fire was directly across the street from a garage fire at 810 Mineral Spring Avenue which occurred on June 3, 2009.

New Years Fire In Darlington

At 09:53 On New Years Morning Pawtucket Fire Alarm dispatched Engine's 6,3,4 Ladder 2 & Battalion 3 to 24-28 Slater Park Avenue which runs from Armistice Blvd to Waterman Street for a report Of heavy smoke On The third floor. Engine 6 out of the Newport Avenue station arrived with nothing showing from a occupied three story woodframe, Upon further investigation the officer of the sixes reported a "Code Red for responding companies" as heavy smoke was discovered pushing from the wall on side four and a line was requested. Engine 4 arrived and dropped a supply line to adequately maintain a water supply as members from Engine 3 searched floor two for the seat of the fire, Ladder 2 took the front of the building and threw the stick. Fire was discovered in a floor two closet area and quickly knocked down members stretched a back up line to floor three as interior crews began opening up checking for horizontal and vertical extension. Battalion 3 setup incident command on side one and special called Tower Ladder 1 who arrived and setup fans to evacuated trapped smoke and assisted in the overhaul operation. No injuries were reported during the fire which is under investigation by the fire prevention bureau, The special signal fire association responded to provide rehab for the members and displaced residents. The recall was sounded at 09:53.

5th Alarm On Central Falls/Pawtucket Line

The Never Enuf Baking Company Occupied The First Floor Of The Mill Building located at 444 Roosevelt Avenue on the Central Falls/Pawtucket line Since 1910 but had shut down operations in the years prior to 1996, On a hot and humid summer afternoon of that year a fire was reported in the basement of the building. Arriving companies were met with a well advanced basement fire which had extended into the second floor which was being used as residential living space for the previous owners of the bakery. The two alarm fire heavily damaged the building at that point. The large mill building has stood vacant and had been in the process of being renovated in recent years.

At 11:01 Tuesday Morning December 29, 2009 Pawtucket fire alarm dispatched a full assignment to 444 Roosevelt Avenue for a reported building fire, At 11:03 the Central Falls fire alarm Office began dispatching all city apparatus to the same vicinity for the fire. Pawtucket Engine Two arrived with heavy smoke from the rear of the one and two story vacant "U" shaped mill type structure and transmitted a working fire and immediately requested a elevated master stream get setup moments later Central Falls Engine Two arrived on scene and transmitted a second alarm. Firefighters from both cities worked on forcing entry and stretching in lines as members made an attempt at a aggressive interior attack. With little headway being made the incident command staff requested a third alarm and began setting up additional crews for defensive operations. Due to weather and fire conditions along with building construction and a possible truss roof the evacuation order was given followed by the quick successions of the fourth and fifth alarms. Pawtucket Ladder One, Pawtucket Ladder Two, Providence Tower Ladder One, East Providence Ladder Three & Cumberland (Valley Falls) Truck One setup elevated streams with three flowing water. Members evacuated the apartment building at 28 Cross Street due to a potential exposure problem the displaced residents were brought to a temporary shelter which was setup at St Joesph Church located at 391 High Street. Firefighters from Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, Attleboro, East Providence, North Providence, Cumberland & Lincoln worked for hours in a defensive operation to contain the fire to the buildings of origin which was heavily damaged. Several firefighters received minor injuries a couple of which were transported to Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. Pawtucket sounded to recall at 15:41, Central Falls firefighters remained on scene working an extensive overhaul operation that lasted until about 17:00 when companies started returning to service the recall was sounded at 18:10. This was the second fire in Central Falls in Ten Hours shortly after midnight Engine One was stilled out to 36 Rand Street for a vehicle fire on arrival the balance of a working fire assignment was requested with a fully involved car extending to the rear of a dwelling. The cause of both fires is still under investigation by the state fire marshals office.

Busy Night In Pawtucket

Shortly before 07:00 on Friday evening a motorist noticed a large column of smoke while sitting at the traffic light at Lonsdale Ave & Weeden Street. Upon further investigation a commercial dumpster was discovered well involved with fire burning up the vinyl siding of a vacant 2.5 story woodframe at Centre & Coleman Streets. Pawtucket Engine two arrived and began to initiated suppression efforts as additional companies arrived and went to work. Two lines were run one for the exposure and one for the dumpster it appeared that jakes were able to keep the fire contained to the exterior. Tower one forced entry and checked for interior extension on all floors which proved negative.

Around 11:00 firefighters were dispatched to the area of the Chinese Church at 333 Roosevelt Avenue for a reported structure fire. Engine two arrived with "Nothing Showing" and began investigating the area. Engine four arrived at a open burn on High Street and the other companies were cleared and went back into service.

Around 03:00 the "300" tone went off again as Engine's 1,2,5 Ladder 1 & Battalion 4 were stilled out to a reported structure fire at 121 Magill Street. Engine One out of the West Avenue station arrived first due with heavy smoke and fire from the third floor of a three story occupied dwelling and began a interior operation. Fire began to burn thru the roof and incident command requested a third alarm due to the current conditions and a potential for a exposure problem on sides two and four. Heavy fire ran the entire roof line of the dwelling and the evacuation order was given, during this time the eve on side four collapsed hindered egress for jakes exiting the building. Members setup elevated appliances from Tower One and Ladder Two along with a portable gun and numerous large lines. The overlapping fire was knocked down in about a hour leaving an extensive overhaul operation that lasted several hours. The fire building was heavily damaged, The Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced residents, One firefighter received injuries of unknown extent. The cause is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

Around 06:00 Pawtucket Police recieved a call for a vehicle fire On Larch Street, moments later they rebroadcasted "all cars heading to larch street be advised 9-1-1 is receiving numerous calls for 10 Baldwin Street in regards to the car fire" The cover assignment Providence Engine 2, North Providence Engine 3, East Providence Engine 3 & Pawtucket Ladder 3 were dispatched to the incident as Police arrived and reported the car fully involved next to a building. Providence Engine 2 arrived first in and reported a "Code Red" with fire extending to the exterior of a large 3.5 story occupied building and ran a line for extinguishment. The Magill Street incident command began releasing crews Engine's 2,6 Rescue 2 responded in on the car fire. The heavy fire was knocked down in about ten minutes, crews checked for interior extension which proved negative on all floors. No Injuries were reported during this fire.

Minor Hazmat On York Avenue

Pawtucket fire alarm dispatched Engine's 3,6,4 Ladder 2 & Battalion 4 to Hord Crystal located at 42-45 York Avenue for reports of a structure fire. Engine three out of the Columbus Avenue station arrived and reported nothing showing from side one, Upon further investigation smoke was discovered from the vents on side three and crews went on air and began to make entry. Engine six arrived and stretched a precautionary handline from George Bennett Highway to the rear door while ladder two setup in the parking lot on side four and stuck the roof as acting Battalion Chief Cordeiro transmitted a "Code Red" for units responding. Interior crews reported a machine issue that led to a chemical reaction which produced a possibly toxic smoke. Due to multiple differently placarded containers inside the building and not being able to identify the chemicals involved in the incident the scene commander requested notification of the hazmat and safety officers along with the department of environmental management who responded to investigate.

Garage Fire On Mineral Spring Avenue

At 12:02 Engine 5 was dispatched to 810 Mineral Spring Avenue in the Fairlawn section of the city for a report of brush burning, on arrival Engine 5 requested the balance of a working fire assignment for fire in a garage behind a occupied three decker. Engine's 2,1 Tower Ladder 1 Rescue 1 & the Battalion responded while on scene crews ran a line for fire suppression. Members made good progress having the visible fire knocked down using tank water in about ten minutes, The single story two bay garage was heavily damaged along with a vehicle that was parked inside. No injuries were reported The recall was sounded at 12:55.

House Fire On Harrison Street

At 11:32 Tuesday morning as crews were training at 517 Pleasant Street fire alarm announced a reported structure fire at 181 Harrison Street, Engine 2 arrived first due under control of Captain Cordeiro with heavy smoke and fire showing from the first floor of the large three story multiple dwelling and a code red was reported. A heavy fire condition was impinging on 185 Harrison Street which is a building of similar type and a parked vehicle in the driveway on side two as members began running lines as a aggressive interior attack was initiated to extinguish the fire and preform searches for possible trapped occupants which proved negative. Jakes made great progress having the overlapping fire knocked down within twenty minutes with an extensive overhaul operation remaining, With crews tied up on scene mutual aid box 2826 was struck for station coverage. One minor injury was reported, The building of origin was heavily damaged and the exposure building received exterior damage due to radiant heat which melted the siding. The Providence Canteen along with numerous citywide members and the American red cross responded. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire prevention the recall was sounded at 13:12.

3rd Alarm On Baldwin Street

Shortly after 20:00 hours on Friday the 13th Engine's 5,1,2 Tower 1 & Battalion Chief responded to the area of Baldwin & Cooper Street which actually don't intersect for a reported basement fire, Due to multiple calls and police on scene reporting a active fire at 71-73 Baldwin Street the fill in assignment Engine 3, Ladder 2 & Rescue 1 were dispatched. Engine 5 arrived first due with a three story vacant flattop woodframed building with fire in the basement on side two extending into the first floor and a line was stretched for fire suppression. A second and third alarm were struck as heavy fire in the basement rapidly extending into the upper floors and threatened exposures on sides two and four. Members from Group C made an aggressive interior attack but were forced to evacuate due to multiple holes in the floors and progression of fire, Crews utilized a deck gun, ladder pipe and multiple large lines from the exterior to gain control of the fire in about a half hour with an extensive overhaul operation remaining into the evening. No serious injuries were reported during the fire, one firefighter put his leg thru the floor making entry and was safely removed another great stop by Pawtucket jakes!

Fatal House Fire On Meadow Street

Shortly after 20:00 hours on Saturday Pawtucket Fire alarm began receiving numerous reports of a structural fire at 160 Meadow Street Engine's 3,6,4 Ladder 2 & the Battalion Chief responded due to the amount of calls and reported entrapment Engine 2, Tower 1 & Rescue 2 were sent out. Engine 3 arrived first due, the officer transmitted a second alarm with numerous people trapped on the second floor and heavy fire showing from the entire first floor. Ground ladders were thrown to the occupants on side one which allowed them to safely get to the ground. Due to a occupant still trapped on floor three a aggressive interior operation was initiated running lines into the heavily involved first floor which by now was extending to the upper floors and also running lines over ground ladders due to fire load in the stairwells. Engine 4 made the third floor and located a male victim who was removed via side two and transported to Memorial Hospital where he later died. Firefighters made great progress knocking down the overlapping fire which was impinging on the exposure two building which was of similar type in less than an hour leaving an extensive overhaul operation. One firefighter received a minor hand injury and was transported. All city companies responded to the alarm which required mutual aid to respond into the city for coverage, incident command special called a Central Falls Engine from the cover assignment for the R.I.T or F.A.S.T Company and a Central Falls Rescue to standby. The State fire marshal & Fire Prevention were on scene investigating the cause which is being called accidental.

The fire was located less than a block from the site of a fatal fire that occurred on Thursday, February, 2 2006 at 177 Meadow Street. A 21 Year old who set fire to the home and a vehicle which was parked in the driveway. The 95 year old resident was trapped in his bedroom he was removed and transported to Memorial Hospital, He died five days later at Rhode Island Hospital.The 21 year old was found in Ohio and extradited back to Rhode Island where he faced murder and arson charges.

Occupied House Fire On Liberty Street

At 18:49 Pawtucket Fire Alarm dispatched Engine's 6,3,4 Ladder 2 & Battalion 3 to 14 Liberty Street for a reported basement fire, Engine's 3 & 6 arrived simultaneously and reported a smoke condition. The officer of Engine 3 reported a "Code Red For Responding Apparatus" and requested a line to the basement, Upon further investigation fire was discovered extending upwards into the first floor and a second line was stretched followed by a request for the fill in companies Engine 2, Tower Ladder 1 & Rescue 2 were dispatched with Ladder 1 approaching off Gilmore Street. Rescue 1 was special called to transport a patient with burns to Memorial Hospital as fire was uncovered traveling up via the chimney into floor two and the attic area and a third line was stretched. Firefighters made great progress having the fire knocked down in about a half hour and holding to the building of origin The Providence Canteen responded along with Car 1 (Chief) Car 3, Car 4 (Safety) & Car 33 (Fire Prevention) the cause is still under investigation. The recall was sounded at 21:17.

About twenty minutes later fire alarm started receiving calls for fire on the second floor of 14 Liberty Street, Engine 6,3,4 Ladder 2 & Battalion 3 responded once again, Due to multiple calls reporting a fire Engine 2, Tower 1 & Rescue 2 were filled in prior to arrival. Engine 3 arrived and reported fire showing from the second floor side two of the previous fire building and stretched one line to extinguish a mattress and other contents within the room, The fill in companies were staged on scene while Ladder 2 was requested to overhaul and remove smoldering debris to ensure that they wouldn't be back later in the evening. No injuries were reported during the second incident.

Commercial Building Fire On York Avenue

Around 04:00 Monday Morning Pawtucket Fire Alarm Dispatched Engine's 3,6,4 Ladder 2 and The Battalion Chief To 170 York Avenue for a reported structure fire. While crews responded fire alarm notified the chief of multiple calls being received and the fill in assignment Engine 2, Tower 1 and Rescue 2 were sent out. Lieutenant Carroll reported a fully involved mill building as Engine 3 was approaching the scene and transmitted a second alarm on arrival, Mutual aid Box 2826 was struck for station coverage at that point. Incident command ordered fireground operations to remain defensive while fire consumed the one story gym type structure threatening the exposure four building which is a two story metal clad commercial building with a tin roof. Ladder 2 arrived and setup a ladder pipe on side one while Tower 1 setup on side four and setup to flow water, Engine's 3 & 2 also played water onto the fire via deck guns. Car 4 (Safety) reported heavy fire extension in one of the commercial establishments in the exposure building and requested manpower to side four, Providence Ladder 4 who was on the cover assignment was special called and setup a additional ladder pipe on side one. Members started opening up the businesses on side four and uncovered several which were well involved with vehicles also involved and additional handlines were stretched for extinguishment as the wall on side two collapsed in. Firefighters made great progress knocking down the heavy volume fire in about two hours in the extreme weather conditions, Incident command requested callbacks to man reserve apparatus due to the extended overhaul operation which lasted well into the day. The exposure building was the scene of a two alarm fire on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 and had since reopened for business, Pawtucket Fire Prevention and The State Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause, No injuries were reported during the incident.

Structure Fire On Sterry Street

Monday Morning Pawtucket Fire Alarm dispatched Engine Companies 1,2,5 Tower Ladder 1 and the Battalion Chief were dispatched to 74 Sterry Street for a structure fire, Engine 1 arrived and reported a "Code Red" with heavy smoke showing from the basement of a occupied two story woodframe with residents in the second floor windows and stretched a handline to begin fire suppression efforts while other members setup a ground ladder to assist the occupant who eventually jumped to safety. Engine 3, Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 were dispatched on the fill in assignment while Engine 2 arrived and stretched a backup line to assist interior crews who already had the fire knocked down in the basement, Members checked for extension to the upper floor and attic which turned up minor extension to floor one and was quickly delt with. Firefighters had the fire under control within a half hour of arrival. No injuries were reported during the fire, The American Red Cross responded to help out the displaced family The Providence Canteen responded as well to provide rehab for the firefighters.

Afternoon House Fire In Fairlawn


At 15:22 Pawtucket Fire Alarm dispatched Engine's 5,1,2 Ladder 1 & The Battalion Chief to 24 Grosvenor Avenue for a structure fire. Engine 5 reported a "Code Red" from quarters with heavy banking smoke crossing Smithfield Avenue, On arrival Engine 5 had heavy fire in the rear of a 1.5 story private dwelling and stretched a line to begin interior operations while Engine 3, Ladder 2 & Rescue 1 were dispatched to filled in on the Working Fire Assignment. Engine 1 arrived and stretched a backup line to assist interior companies who were making progress knocking down the fire on the first floor. Fire eventually extended into floor two and the attic area before being brought under control using a aggressive interior attack which had the heavy volume of fire knocked down within twenty minutes of arrival. No injuries were reported during the incident, fire prevention is still investigating its cause but it is believed to have started in the kitchen on floor one. Once again another great stop with the recall sounded at 16:53.

Quick Knock Down On Lorraine Street


At 11:05 Friday Morning Pawtucket Firefighters were dispatched to 22 Lorraine Street for a structure fire. Engine 5 arrived first due and reported a "code red" with fire on the second floor on side four of a three story multiple dwelling and initiated fire suppression efforts while additional resources arrived on scene. Interior crews made great progress knocking down the heavy volume of fire with two lines in about twenty minutes and began an extensive overhaul operation to check for extension to the upper floor and cockloft area which turned up negative along with the primary and secondary searches. Mutual aid responded into the city to provide station coverage during the incident. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation by the fire prevention office, The recall was sounded at 12:30.

Busy Night On The West Side

Just After 01:00 Saturday Morning Pawtucket Fire Alarm Dispatched Engine's 1&2 Tower 1, Rescue 1 & The Battalion Chief to in front of 1005 Main Street for a reported rollover. Rescue 1 arrived and confirmed a vehicle rollover with the operator already out of the vehicle, and held West Avenue companies on scene. One patient was transported to a area hospital with injuries of unknown extent. It appears that the vehicle that rolled was struck by another vehicle which fled, down Newell Street stopping at the corner of Magill Street to check out the damage which was quite evident on the passenger side of the silver Oldsmobile which then fled at a high rate of speed towards the u haul building.

Shortly after this accident Engine 5 & Rescue 2 were dispatched to Mineral Spring & Lonsdale for a Motor Vehicle Accident, which appeared to be a head on accident not involving the vehicle from the first crash, Minor injuries were reported in that incident.

Fire In Downtown Chemical Warehouse


Around 12:15 Pawtucket firefighters were dispatched to Roberts Chemical located at 258 Pine Street for a reported structure fire, Due to a prior kitchen fire at coats manor which requires a 4&2 response the regular first due companies were delayed. Battalion 3 and Engine 1 arrived to the 1&2 story warehouse storing hazardous materials with a small fire in the roofline, Members from engine 1 stretched a handline to extinguish the fire while tower ladder 1 arrived and set up to open up the roof in the affected area to check for extension. Incident command reported a "Code Red" for on scene companies which was already equivelent to a working fire assignment, Rescue 1 was special called to stand by. members opened up and checked for extension which proved negative while North Providence & Central Falls Covered empty stations, the fire was knocked down and contained to the area of origin in about ten minutes with no feeders or injuries reported. The fire is believed to have been caused by workmen using a blowtorch.

Small Fire In Pawtucket Mill Building


Shortly After 13:30 Thursday afternoon Pawtucket fire alarm dispatched a 3&1 response to Box 229 located at 5 Hill Street. Downtown apparatus (Engine 2 & Tower 1) arrived on scene, the officer of Engine 2 reported a "Code Red" with heavy smoke showing from the Hill Street side of the large two and three story "L" Shaped commercial mill type structure, which stores historical state records. Tower 1 relocated to the Church Street side and set up reporting fire on the rooftop of the one story section, while the crew of engine 2 stretched a handline thru the second floor window. Engine 3, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, Car 1 (Chief Of Department) & Car 4 (Safety) filled in on the working fire assignment while East Providence, North Providence, Providence, & Central Falls Covered Empty stations. Engine 2 radioed a urgent message reporting a possible employee unaccounted for inside the building, minutes later the missing person was found safely outside. Interior companies made great progress containing the fire to the area of origin with minimal extension to the floor below in less than a half hour. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown extent. The fire is still under investigation but is believed to have been caused by workmen thawing out pipes with a blowtorch.

Fire In Downtown Highrise


Pawtucket firefighters arrived at 35 Goff Avenue to find fire showing from a floor two apartment at Centennial Towers, a nine story elderly housing complex in downtown. Firefighters had heavy smoke and a well involved apartment to contend with as they made rescues from the fire apartment. Additional companies arrived and evacuated residents from the affected area and ran lines off the standpipe to begin to knock down the fire. Eventually all city apparatus responded on the alarm along with a Providence Rescue while other mutual aid companies were brought in to cover empty firehouses, Three patients were evacuated and transported from the scene to a local hospital with injuries of unknown extent. The fire was under control within a hour, The fire apartment was a total loss with other apartments sustaining water damage.

Kitchen Fire In Occuped Dwelling


On Monday Evening Pawtucket Firefighters responded to 42 Daniels Street for a reported structure fire, Engine 4 arrived first due and reported "smoke showing" from floor two of a occupied 2.5 story woodframe and reported a "Code Red" for incoming apparatus. Fire originated in the kitchen on floor two with minor extension to the surrounding area, Engine 4 used one line to wet down while Engine 2 stretched a back up line to the floor above to check for extension which proved negative. The fire was knocked down prior to arrival by the occupants, Rescue 2 evaluated a patient with a minor hand injury.

The fire building itself was severely threatened by fire on February, 27, 2006 when the building located next door at 39 Daniels Street was destroyed by a fast moving gas fed fire on a brutally cold night firefighters saved the building by setting up a ladder pipe and continuously wetting down the Building.

Around Noon on Tuesday afternoon fire alarm dispatched a 3&1 response to 85 Cole Street for a smoke condition on floor two. Engine 4 arrived first due and reported nothing showing from a 3 story occupied woodframe, after investigating a handline was stretched to floor two as fire was discovered in the wall. Command requested a additional Engine & truck to fill in on the assignment Engine 1 & Ladder 1 was dispatched. The fire was knocked down and contained quickly with a single line and no feeder, no injuries were reported.Around 17:30 Engines 1,2,5 Ladder 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched on calls reporting a structure fire at 11 Thornton Street. First in Engine 1 reported smoke showing from a 2.5 story occupied dwelling 20x30 and stretched in on a fire condition on floor two. Fire extended up the bays on side one extending into the attic space and half story while members worked on locating and knocking down the fire. Engine 3, Ladder 2 & Rescue 1 was dispatched to fill in on the working fire assignment. Ladder 2 arrived and set up on side two and vented the roof. Interior companies knocked the fire down in about fifteen minutes with no injuries reported. The red cross was called to provide shelter for the displaced residents, the Providence Canteen also responded for rehab.
